Womenfolk originally began in 2004, one of the earlier music blogs on the internet. Our focus was to promote women in music, primarily independent artists, but also profiling better-known artists as well, offering a bit of background information and music samples to introduce new music to thirsty ears.

In 2006, we self-published a CD compilation of thirteen independent musicians titled Womenfolk, Vol. 1 , featuring songs by artists including Jill Barber, Kate York and Laura Burhenn.

In 2011, we decided to end our run, largely due to lack of time (not lack of interest).

Four years later, we’re slowly dusting things off and preparing to relaunch, organizing older posts and writing new ones. There’s a lot of music out there that needs to be heard and our hope is to garner new listeners for many talented songwriters and musicians.
